Second Skin Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
1. Leave the Second Skin on for 4–5 days
- Keep the bandage on for the recommended time unless it starts to leak, peel off, accumulate water or sweat or become uncomfortable.
- It’s normal to see some fluid build-up under the film, this is part of the healing process.
2. Removing the Bandage
- Remove the film gently under warm running water.
- Peel it slowly from one corner, pulling it back over itself (not straight up) to reduce discomfort.
- Wash the area immediately and thoroughly after removing the bandage.
3. Washing the Tattoo
- Use a clean cloth or clean hands
- Wash gently with unscented antibacterial soap and warm water.
- Pat dry with a clean paper towel or allow to air dry, do not rub.
4. Moisturizing
- Once the tattoo feels dry and tight, typically after 24 hours, apply a thin layer of unscented lotion.
- Do not over-apply — a light coat is enough to keep it from drying out or cracking.
5. What to Avoid
- No swimming, soaking, or hot tubs for at least 2 weeks.
- Avoid direct sunlight and tanning until the tattoo is fully healed.
- Don’t pick, scratch, or peel any flakes or scabs.
- Avoid tight or dirty clothing rubbing against the tattoo.
- Avoid pets or anything else that can introduce contaminants to the site.
6. Healing Process
- Some redness, itching, and light flaking are normal.
- Your tattoo may look cloudy or dull during healing — color and clarity will return once the skin fully regenerates (about 2–4 weeks).
7. Long-Term Care
- Always use sunscreen (SPF 30+) on healed tattoos to keep them vibrant.
- Keep your skin hydrated year-round.
